When Fashion and Nature Collide -Feline Good

Feline Good

Feline couture is feline good! Cats flourish at being the ruler of their domain. Who cannot relate to being King or Queen of their castle. The power of animal fashion is everywhere in pattern. It has purred its way into print and our hearts. Cats have been featured on runways for years as cat motifs have ruled many fashion lines. The cat inspiration hit us and we fell in love with many famous cats, wearables, and products.

Welcome to our November edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide. On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition. You will see art, beautiful fashion and accessories styled by Dominique from 3C Style, flowers and beautiful art by Darren from the Arty Plantsman, and original art from me Lisa@Lismore Paper. Soon we will be opening a shop on Threadless which offers our products under the Fashioned By Nature Label. Crossing our paws it will open December 1st just in time for Christmas! If you missed the t-shirt post, click here.

So what’s all the purring about…

GARFIELD

I am partial to this feline. I remember receiving a stuffed toy in the 2nd grade and cherishing it for years. A little secret, I still have it. Creating art inspired by this famous cat was fun. Watercolor and digital enhancement made this #eyeCatching piece a bit art deco. I completed a few different versions. I enjoy adding eyelashes to everything I can, as you can see in the first photo above. Darren’s flower the Calochortus barbatus hit it on the mark, it’s a beauty. Dominique’s style from the cat print shirt and perfect complimenting hat mimic Garfield. Doesn’t she look gorgeous!

CHESHIRE CAT

The Cheshire Cat is a fictional cat popularized by Lewis Carroll in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This cat is mostly remembered for the wicked smile that I just love. The incredibly witty character has the most wonderful quotes. My favorite quote, “Every adventure requires a first step.”

Dominique looks beautiful and the colors match this Cheshire Cat perfectly…look at those cattails! Darren’s flower looks like a wonderland creation, I love the bell shape. For the quote art, I layered paper and you can see Dominique’s colors have been placed on top then blended into the paper. The eyes are layers of water color splotches with colored pencil on top and the smile was created using the technique of dropping water onto the paper in a pattern then letting the color fill in. I scanned at high quality, then added the pupils and shadows digitally along with the lettering.

Simple Pleasures

Garden Frost Oct 18

Explore. Slow down to appreciate what surrounds you. Enjoy the sound of the rain, look for the shimmer in the frost and snow, and the bursts of color nature provides. Keep a journal of ideas and scribble illustrations. Take pleasure in seasonal feasts and harvest. Tell stories. Mark your legacy. Cherish handmade. Try your hand at a new hobby. Wood burning, bird watching, painting, and gardening. Renew and restore something old into new. Everyday, take a moment to slow down to admire the moment of the season. Breathe deeply, live beautifully and choose kindness.

Taking in the simple pleasure of the season. An Autumn Frost.

The Power of Mother Nature

Birch Fall 2018

We all aspire to have a better life. Live with little stress and enjoy the efforts of our hard work. We need to look after ourselves, make sure we take care of our body and that includes our mind. We need to be in our right element to root properly, take shape, and prune away when needed. Life tends to get in the way sometimes with work, households, and family members who are sick and/or aging. I am learning this first hand.

Even though we learn while taking care of loved ones how patience and compassion helps in the caregiving/healing process. We need to extend this to ourselves. When we don’t, it stifles our minds and ceases the creative process.

This has hit home with me. I needed a refresher, a break from the fishbowl and the noise. Feeling overwhelmed with simple tasks, I needed a reset. Realizing this, I decided a visit with Mother Nature was needed.

Woods Fall 2018

Even though it has been raining here for days and days, I grabbed my camera, rubber boots, and began exploring by myself. I needed to feel the mist on my face, hear the graceful sounds of the forest floor, and breathe in the crisp air of Autumn. The colors are just beginning their show and I am anxious to repeat my hike within the next week to capture more of the crimson and golds.

With each step I took, the baggage of life began to drop. The virtual weight of boulders fell to the ground. All of my senses began firing again. Mother Nature has a way of nurturing the soul naturally. The stress build-up washed away with the rain. I felt refreshed again and able to create. I hunted for solace and peace, finding it just a few steps away. It soothed my restless soul. The Midnight Hunt was a product of letting go.

A look at a few steps along the way…

Remember to take care of yourself on this Autumn Day! What is your favorite thing to do to reset yourself?

Much love,

Lisa

Summer’s Finale

Pet Blog

September is a transition month here in Michigan. The air has a nip, the trees lush green begins to fade, turning into the spectacular display of fall colors that we all love. Just as a preview, a few of the soft woods like the birch and sugar maples begin to glow with a hint of maize and red. As the daylight is noticeable shorter, the flower blooms begins to show fatigue, and the humidity fades. This summer has been especially hard on our favorite plants. Whether you loved the crazy heat wave that swept through or not, September finds us digging out our thicker socks and knit sweaters for that cozy feel. Saying goodbye, the finale of the season is never easy.

I always like to revisit my summer. I wanted to share a few today. We just planted two hydrangeas, thank you mom! They will be beautiful next year. I also included the friendly little walking stick that likes to hang out in the front garden.

Poppy Botanical Post Card

Opium Poppy Paper set on French Paper 3.5 x 5 JPEG

There is just something about the beauty of poppies, commonly known as the Black Opium Poppy,  Papaver somniferum, or the breadseed poppy. This is a species of a flowering plant in the family – Papaveraceae. It is the species of plant from which opium and poppy seeds are derived and is a valuable ornamental plant, grown in gardens. Its native range is probably the eastern Mediterranean, but is now obscured by ancient introductions and cultivation.

The Black Opium Poppy is a gorgeous purple that is so deep in color, they are almost black. See it in its natural state. They offer such a beautiful addition to the garden.

Double Black Opium PoppyPicture and flower information provided by Bing.

Click on the post card above, size 3.5 x 5 inch (post card size). I am offering this free for personal use. These are great for small art piece, decoupage, scrapbooking, card, or large tag.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

When Fashion and Nature Collide – July Edition

Scooter ArtThe summer months call us outside to enjoy our surroundings, let us feel the warmth of the sun on our skin. This year it’s been especially hot all over the world. It’s a perfect time to put on your favorite hat for a little shade, enjoy the music – perhaps your favorite song or natures music of chirping birds and the buzz of wildlife. Sweet frogs singing in the rain or lush leaves acting like a chime in the wind. There is nothing like the natural song of Mother Nature. Grab your favorite hat and take a spin with us.

When Fashion and Nature Collide, is a monthly project collaboration with me and three wonderfully talented WP friends: Dominique from 3C Style, Roda from Growing Self and Darren from Arty Plantsman. The third Wednesday of each month you will see art from me that was inspired by outfits styled and modeled by Dominique, critter photography from Roda, and flower photography from Darren.

Our first stop lands us in Maine with the Dragon lady! This piece is dedicated to our friend and fellow WP blogger Linda, Maine Paper Pusher a.k.a fast flying dragon lady! There was much inspiration surrounding this art piece and was crafted out of love. Roda’s photography inspired the look of the dragonfly, make sure you visit her post for more on this gorgeous critter. From the big round eyes to the tip of the tail, it’s all in the details that Roda has captured through her lens.

This second piece of art came late in the month after Linda posted this, A Critter Quiz, as I was working on my art. Dragons are magical and they start their life in water! Thank you, Linda for inspiring this piece, Metamorphosis – Birth of a Dragon. Let’s head to our next stop.

Our second stop takes us to a walk in the park. Nature inspires so many things from clothing, pattern, and color, to items like journal covers and paper. Make sure you visit Darren and Dominique’s post for more on this beautiful fashion, architecture, and botanical drawings. They are going to be used for a special project that all of you fashionistas are going to love!

Our third stop takes us to the above art, Let’s take a Spin. This was inspired by this series of Blue Orchid art and styling on a scooter. It feels carefree, reminding me of streets lined with flower shops, bistros, and feel good living. Dominique is modeling one of my favorite hats. The color of the blue orchid is carried into the flower scooter. You have to see what Dominique is up to at our next stop.
