Being Thankful – Print & Tag

Thanksgiving Wreath ThankfulAt times life can really be trying. For most, we have to plan our time with family and friends, save for the things we need and want, and have many responsibilities to tend to (food, a roof over our head, and electricity). It’s not easy to do this day in and day out. But these things, I am thankful for. From these we learn responsibility, lessons, love, and truly what is important. Sometimes we struggle and other times we look around and realize our accomplishments.

For those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving on the 22nd take the time to tell the ones you love that you are thankful for their love and friendship. For all of you reading, I am thankful for you. Thank you for enriching my life, sharing your stories, and allowing me to learn and grow. I appreciate you.

Please feel free to use these graphics for personal use. Click on the image to save to your device. The Thankful wreath graphic 8″x10″ can be used for cards or printable. The graphic below is a tag 2″x3.5″ to tie onto a package or for placement on the Thanksgiving table.

When Fashion and Nature Collide – Ocean Tails, a Secret to Share.

Ocean Tails on Postcard 5 x 7

Just imagine your bare feet slipping into warm sugar sand. You are in your swimsuit, a beach tote in hand, soaking up the sun. You look to the left, then the right, and forward, you see nothing but turquoise. Your senses fill with a hint of salt and sea, the waves crash in, coming to rest in front of you. The rhythmic sounds of the ocean seeps into your soul with enchanting grace, releasing weight of built up stress. The beach is sprinkled with beautiful fashion, flowers, and critters, perhaps you will even catch a glimpse of a shimmering fin. Order your favorite drink and settle in under the umbrella. Let’s go to the sea.

On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition of  When Fashion and Nature Collide. You will see beautiful fashion and accessories styled and modeled by Dominique from 3C Style and original art made by me, Lisa from Lismore Paper that were inspired by Roda from Growing Self critter pictures and Darren from the Arty Plantsman flower pictures and his original art. For the full feature be sure to visit Dominique, Roda, and Darren. Let’s take the plunge into our Ocean Edition!

Dive Girl

Grab your gear and let’s go explore the deep blue. Tropical pink hibiscus flowers and succulents make this diving mask and regulator watercolor. Mixed with fun script and signature eyelashes, it’s a fun way to show a bit of your adventurous spirit. Dominique is a dive girl making a splash in the pictures below. There is also a secret to share later in the post.

Make Waves – Protect the Ocean

This is one of the most meaningful pieces of art I have ever created. Using watercolor succulents and a variation of flowers and leaves, inspiration came in many forms. Roda’s beautiful sea turtles and Darren’s blue flower, Tecophilaea Cyanocrocus, are a wonderful inspiration point. Dominique and I emailed back and forth until this slogan fit our views just right and her brilliant lettering made this a piece to remember. This is such an important topic. Disposing of trash and recycle properly is key. We need to protect all of our critters in the ocean. When you do the right thing, it makes waves, they travel far and do a lot of good for every soul on the planet. The turtles will thank you with their beauty and their endless work of seed dispersal, acting as the clean-up crew of the ecosystem, and some even create a habitat for hundreds of species of animals from invertebrates to mammals.

Ocean Tails – A Secret to Share

The ocean holds many creatures. Some we have known about since the beginning of time, some have been recently discovered, and some special ones, are what dreams are made of. There are timeless tales, but there is one mystical creature that we long to see and hear, the Mermaid. What I didn’t know, there was a beautiful mermaid amongst all of us this entire time! Before I show you the proof, I want to share with you the post card made by me set on a 5 x7 vintage piece and using several different forms of mediums: vintage, colored pencil, watercolor, and acrylic. Darren’s wife, Susan, photographed the  beautiful hibiscus flower which I used in the mermaid’s hair. Click on the image below to save to your device, for personal use only.

Seven Day Photo Challenge with a 3C Style Twist

My beautiful and talented friend Dominique over at 3C Style has tagged me in the Seven Days Photo Challenge! Thanks so much, Dominique! Like her, I am twisting it up because I just cannot help myself.

The official rules are … Seven days. Seven black and white photos of your life. No people. No explanations. Challenge someone new each day.

My rule breaking … Because of my love for seeing both black & white and color side by side, I’m doing both. And…Instead of challenging someone new each day, I want all of you who are interested in this challenge to take it up, join us having fun, and maybe break the rules a bit! Just to add one more while I’m at it…they are all in the same post.

Hope you can participate!

Much love,

Art Inspiration – When Fashion and Nature Collide

April Ladybird Art

There is so much inspiration to be found in nature. Our team has chosen several flowers, critters, and fashion to feature this month. For April, my choice was based on color and the need for spring to make its appearance. The pop of ladybug red, black and white, and sunshine yellow is a feast for the eyes especially after a long winter.

The pattern on Dominique’s coat and color resembles a ladybug and also pulls the vibrant red of the turban buttercup. I also think about the textile artists and fashion designers who use their art and craft to create beautiful clothing using plant, animal, and fibers to mimic these patterns and colors. Inspiration for textiles have been fundamental in creating clothing since the beginning of civilization.

Drawn in by the ladybug, or some, refer to it as the ladybird, I was easily captured by Dominique of 3C Style choice of fashion. Being inspired by Roda from Growing Self, her beautiful photo of the perfect ladybug on greens, and Darren from The Arty Plantsman, photos of his double-flowered forms of the Ranunculus or Turban Buttercup in red, white, and yellow, you can see how this look came together. From these, I was able to sketch and create art based on how closely Fashion and Nature come together. I was especially drawn to the silky appearance of the Turban Buttercup. For all of the April looks, make sure to visit the links above.

Below is one of my favorite Ladybug quotes in a free printable. For all of the fashionista’s, is one of my sketch’s from the art work above. These are for personal use only. Great for craft projects or art. Click on the link to download to your device.

When Fashion and Nature Collide – March

Photo Mar 17, 10 41 35 AM

Fashion and Nature flow together seamlessly. I love the texture and vivid colors paired with a vintage flair that spans across decades. Timeless pieces regardless of the trend. Nature is an inspiration for my art as it is paired with elements of texture, ephemera, and pieces like lace and etchings. I also love to walk outside and take in the world around me. The palette that surrounds us in life is full of magic. Mother Nature truly allows for endless possibilities. If you take a look in your closet, you will find the same. Textile artists have captured the same feel and have used those same color palettes for centuries. I can only imagine that they were also inspired by their surroundings so many years ago. Take a look at how they pair…

In my art, I use the layers to achieve the collision between these worlds. It amazes me that a flower or a critter grows to be breathtakingly beautiful with lively colors that would not be paired together normally. It isn’t until we see them in bloom or running in the wild that we pair these colors together. We use them in so many ways without thinking about the a original inspiration.

The Collision…March 21st

March Art Sample

I am so excited to announce a collaboration with three amazingly talented, beautiful, and beyond creative friends; Darren, TheArtyPlantsman, Dominique, 3CStyle, and Roda, Growing Self. When I was asked to create art for this project, I cannot even begin to explain how passionate and excited I am to be a part of this team.

Dominique explains the project beautifully, “When Fashion and Nature Collide, which showcases our love for critters, flowers and art. Our passion let it be photography, drawing or fashion is nurtured by the beauty and harmony of nature, shared friendship and a common desire to stay connected in order to keep growing and blooming. Each month starting on March 21st you will see outfits styled by me, and art from Lisa, that were inspired by Roda’s critter pictures and Darren’s flower pictures. Each one of us will post a specific blog post describing the species or in my case the clothing. It’s a rendez-vous we hope you won’t miss it and that it will encourage you to seek inspiration from Mother Nature.”

Please visit Dominique’s launch post for more information and learn more about me, my interview, with her at 3CStyle.
