She Who Dares

She Who Dares…Wins, indeed. 2018 overall was a year of growth for me mostly due to Word Press. Of course, every year has its struggles, hardships, and losses, I had mine. I tried and was mostly successful to stay out of the darkness. I am fortunate for the friends I made and the creative outlets. I am not one who likes to dwell on the past, except for traditions.

For 2019, I want to dare myself. I like this saying instead of resolution because frankly, I’m not good at keeping my resolutions much past January. I dare myself to push the envelope, explore creativity, expand my writing, and share more of what I love even if I fail miserably at it. I am looking forward to continuing the creative journey that myself, Darren the Arty Plantsman and Dominique from 3CStyle are on with When Fashion and Nature Collide.

In 2019, you will see more posts from me. I will share what brings me inspiration and of course free graphics for crafts. I am constantly taking pictures and creating graphics that find themselves hidden away in some file that never sees the light of day.

All photographs were taken by me. Some I have shared on IG. Here is hoping to more shares in 2019! Besides art, nature and decorating makes my heart happy.

I wish all of you a happy and safe New Years! What are you going to dare yourself to do?

Much love & big New Year’s hugs,

Lisa

When Fashion & Nature Collide – Holiday Edition

Hugs, Comfort & Joy

Hugs equal love and also give us strength. They heal us, relieve loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress. Most important, hugs create comfort and joy. It’s wonderful to get a hug from your favorite person. What else is wonderful…the hug of a soft blanket, or scarves and gloves that keep us toasty warm. A nice cable knit sweater, warm socks, and a fuzzy hat that snuggle up just like a hug.

Welcome to our December and holiday edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide, Hugs, Comfort & Joy. On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition. You will see art, beautiful fashion and accessories styled by Dominique from 3C Style, flowers and beautiful art by Darren from the Arty Plantsman, and original art from me Lisa@Lismore Paper. Be sure to check out each blog for the full edition.

Hugs-What we love

The Polar Bear

Dominique via Darren found these great wildlife photos with this polar bear. The wildlife brings great happiness to our hearts. The polar bear is a hypercarnivorous bear whose native range lies largely within the Arctic Circle, encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. Lets not forget about Canada. It is home to approximately 16,000 of the estimated 20,000 polar bears in the global polar regions. Look at Domenic, she and the polar bear are enjoying their environment. I was inspired by the footprint of this enormous bear and Christmas. Darren’s flower, Hepatica Japonica, inspired the purple recolor of the hat, scarf, and gloves.

The Snow Owl

Such a beauty. To see a snow owl in the wild takes your breath away.
The snow owl is a large, white owl of the typical owl family. Snow owls are native to cold regions in North America. Males are almost all white, while females have more flecks of black plumage. Juvenile snow owls have black feathers until they turn white. Such beautiful feather patterns that inspire artists, pattern makers, and designers around the world.

The White Moth

White as Winter. The purity of the white moth never escapes me. I love the myth, this is why I was so moved to assist in the making of the first photo below. Because of different beliefs surrounding this, I only want to suggest you look up the myths if interested. Moths are similar creatures and their differences abound but all of these insects fall under the encompassing order name of Lepidoptera. Similarities between Butterflies an Moths include their scale-like hairs that cover their respective bodies and deliver their various recognizable patterns and colors along the wings that we see. Comfort & Joy – Tags, Gifts, and Style

Pretty packages to our family and friends brings us joy. Cable knits and warmth bring us comfort. With the holidays upon us, we take care in decorating our homes with special trinkets that hold holiday past, present, and future. Just like my favorite holiday story by Charles Dickens, The Christmas Carol. Paper goods and soft lighting are some of my favorite things. I also love homemade paper tags.

The Blackbird

There is so much mystery surrounding a blackbird. Writers love to pour their souls into words on paper, artists paint black feathers with a cast of blue, and fashion mimics the colors and flow of the mysterious creature that calls and cackles a chilling tune. My favorite, The Raven. by Edgar Allan Poe. (published 1845)

“Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.”

This inspires art, fashion, and costume. Speaking of costume, you have to see our team, it was so much fun! I have a total costume crush! Look below at Domenic, she styled this perfectly.

Orb Spider

When I originally saw this, I emailed Dominique telling her she is a perfect cat woman. Then when I saw the Orb Spider inspired by Roda and heard the back story on these photos (friends having some serious fun in Montreal) I knew what I had to do! Sorry Dominique, I had to turn you yellow, and turn you into an Orb Spider. Thank you kindly for allowing me to let my creativity run with this. The orb spider and spider web was captured beautifully by Roda. I believe Darren captured the original picture of Dominique pointing out the great webs. Doesn’t she make a great superhero!

Autumn Paper

Inspired by these photos of Dominique, I thought a nice Autumn Paper would be in order. Using ephemera backing, watercolor, and a bit of acrylic I wanted to capture the colors of Autumn. A friendly little spider ventured onto the page.

Summer’s Finale

Pet Blog

September is a transition month here in Michigan. The air has a nip, the trees lush green begins to fade, turning into the spectacular display of fall colors that we all love. Just as a preview, a few of the soft woods like the birch and sugar maples begin to glow with a hint of maize and red. As the daylight is noticeable shorter, the flower blooms begins to show fatigue, and the humidity fades. This summer has been especially hard on our favorite plants. Whether you loved the crazy heat wave that swept through or not, September finds us digging out our thicker socks and knit sweaters for that cozy feel. Saying goodbye, the finale of the season is never easy.

I always like to revisit my summer. I wanted to share a few today. We just planted two hydrangeas, thank you mom! They will be beautiful next year. I also included the friendly little walking stick that likes to hang out in the front garden.

Poppy Botanical Post Card

Opium Poppy Paper set on French Paper 3.5 x 5 JPEG

There is just something about the beauty of poppies, commonly known as the Black Opium Poppy,  Papaver somniferum, or the breadseed poppy. This is a species of a flowering plant in the family – Papaveraceae. It is the species of plant from which opium and poppy seeds are derived and is a valuable ornamental plant, grown in gardens. Its native range is probably the eastern Mediterranean, but is now obscured by ancient introductions and cultivation.

The Black Opium Poppy is a gorgeous purple that is so deep in color, they are almost black. See it in its natural state. They offer such a beautiful addition to the garden.

Double Black Opium PoppyPicture and flower information provided by Bing.

Click on the post card above, size 3.5 x 5 inch (post card size). I am offering this free for personal use. These are great for small art piece, decoupage, scrapbooking, card, or large tag.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

When Fashion and Nature Collide – Ocean Tails, a Secret to Share.

Ocean Tails on Postcard 5 x 7

Just imagine your bare feet slipping into warm sugar sand. You are in your swimsuit, a beach tote in hand, soaking up the sun. You look to the left, then the right, and forward, you see nothing but turquoise. Your senses fill with a hint of salt and sea, the waves crash in, coming to rest in front of you. The rhythmic sounds of the ocean seeps into your soul with enchanting grace, releasing weight of built up stress. The beach is sprinkled with beautiful fashion, flowers, and critters, perhaps you will even catch a glimpse of a shimmering fin. Order your favorite drink and settle in under the umbrella. Let’s go to the sea.

On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition of  When Fashion and Nature Collide. You will see beautiful fashion and accessories styled and modeled by Dominique from 3C Style and original art made by me, Lisa from Lismore Paper that were inspired by Roda from Growing Self critter pictures and Darren from the Arty Plantsman flower pictures and his original art. For the full feature be sure to visit Dominique, Roda, and Darren. Let’s take the plunge into our Ocean Edition!

Dive Girl

Grab your gear and let’s go explore the deep blue. Tropical pink hibiscus flowers and succulents make this diving mask and regulator watercolor. There is also a secret to share later in the post.

Make Waves – Protect the Ocean

This is one of the most meaningful pieces of art I have ever created. Using watercolor succulents and a variation of flowers and leaves, inspiration came in many forms. Roda’s beautiful sea turtles and Darren’s blue flower, Tecophilaea Cyanocrocus, are a wonderful inspiration point. Dominique and I emailed back and forth until this slogan fit our views just right and her brilliant lettering made this a piece to remember. This is such an important topic. Disposing of trash and recycle properly is key. We need to protect all of our critters in the ocean. When you do the right thing, it makes waves, they travel far and do a lot of good for every soul on the planet. The turtles will thank you with their beauty and their endless work of seed dispersal, acting as the clean-up crew of the ecosystem, and some even create a habitat for hundreds of species of animals from invertebrates to mammals.

Ocean Tails – A Secret to Share

The ocean holds many creatures. Some we have known about since the beginning of time, some have been recently discovered, and some special ones, are what dreams are made of. There are timeless tales, but there is one mystical creature that we long to see and hear, the Mermaid. What I didn’t know, there was a beautiful mermaid amongst all of us this entire time! Before I show you the proof, I want to share with you the post card made by me set on a 5 x7 vintage piece and using several different forms of mediums: vintage, colored pencil, watercolor, and acrylic. Darren’s wife, Susan, photographed the  beautiful hibiscus flower which I used in the mermaid’s hair. Click on the image below to save to your device, for personal use only.

Product Review: Faber-Castell Artist Pens

Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens Pack

I have been asked what medium is my favorite. This is something I cannot answer with a simple reply. I do have one constant that I always go to, and that is my PITT Artist Pens made by Faber-Castell.  Photos of pens is credited to the Faber-Castell site.

PITT means Pigmented India Ink. These pens are offered in multiple nib sizes and in an array of colors that brings great versatility to pen-and-ink drawings without the mess. Pitt Artist Pens are great for sketching, journaling, cartooning, and drawing. They also stand up when using with other mediums, even watercolor. All of these pens are waterproof when dry, odorless, acid-free, and won’t bleed through paper. My favorite, these pens do not bleed and smudge, I have tried. Once it is dry, and it dries quick, it is there to stay. That fact sold me. There is nothing worse than destroying a piece by a bleeder. Your artwork or journaling will hold up throughout the years.

The Superfine, Fine, Medium, Bullet and Brush nibs hold up, I have not had one bend or break, mindful of acceptable pressure. I have to admit, I can be a bit hard on my pens at times. They also travel with me in my purse with my itsy art journal, so this says a lot about their durability. Another great thing to mention, the cap is made to prevent dry out, they will work like new until the ink is gone.

When I doodle, I do not sketch first. I just grab an ATC (Artist Trading Card) and use a PITT Artist Pen. These doodles are as they are, mistakes and all. Here are a few of my doodles using the XS, S, M, and B PITT Artist Pens…

Doodles 1

Line Drawing
Doodles 2

Here is a restored piece using the M pen. This is a vintage piece that had heavy damage which was not corrected with software.

Kalmia latifolia 8 x 10 tea

Here is an original piece using the B pen, it works like a brush. I must admit you will work a bit slower with these type of pens. This piece I did for the collaboration, When Fashion and Nature Collide.

Fashion Illustration Leopard Fray 5 x 7

Another thing I love about this five-star product is Faber-Castell has a positive carbon footprint and cares about the environment. Read more about that here. I am also looking forward to reviewing the Big Brush pens with nibs you can switch out with wear. How fantastic is that!

These will be my next purchase and I will be sure to review these.
