Clip Art

Apricot

The world of clip art has endless possibilities for creativity. Invitations, greeting cards, wall art, transfers, it’s limitless. Some of the best works come from the 1800’s public domain. I have been collecting some damaged pieces, actually I am like a chipmunk collecting a feast for winter. Anyone who lives in a snowbelt area can understand why :)It’s always incredibly rewarding to make something old and unusable into something new again.

I hope to be changing up my shop to include some of these pieces. I am adding commercial clipart so that others can use these in their own art. If you are a crafter or artist looking for unique clipart please feel free to message me. Or need a blog logo, I’d love to help you create something you are looking for.

Be on the look out for freebies here. Please feel free to click on the image above and save it to your device. Looks great on recipe cards, or as a special botanical piece

Much love,

Lisa

Nature’s Way

Lake

It amazes me how fast the landscape can change. How quick we can slip from summer into fall almost seamlessly. This weekend, the wind whipped through the trees changing the landscape once again. Many leaves have fulfilled their purpose and now decorate the ground with their fading color. So much work to do in the garden, but the fresh cold air will be a bit of relief after the humidity of this past summer. Nature seems to be taking hold in many parts of my life.

What I wasn’t ready for was seeing the big snowflakes that covered the ground in a thin blanket of white. With that blanket came an unexpected sense of peace. The responsibility of outside chores were washed away. The thought of driving anywhere had vanished. Perhaps winter is our time to slow down to appreciate the things around us.

Snow Covered PinesSnowy Morning As you can see, I have much work to do in my yard. The wind knocked down many trees this season, but I’m afraid it will be work to do in the spring.

For now, I have started a new ink drawing of an Ox Eye Daisy that I will share soon on IG. There is also a new set of four bird prints at my shop.

What do you like to do when the season keeps you indoors.

Have a beautiful week!

Much love,

Lisa

The Blackbird

There is so much mystery surrounding a blackbird. Writers love to pour their souls into words on paper, artists paint black feathers with a cast of blue, and fashion mimics the colors and flow of the mysterious creature that calls and cackles a chilling tune. My favorite, The Raven. by Edgar Allan Poe. (published 1845)

“Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.”

This inspires art, fashion, and costume. Speaking of costume, you have to see our team, it was so much fun! I have a total costume crush! Look below at Domenic, she styled this perfectly.

Orb Spider

When I originally saw this, I emailed Dominique telling her she is a perfect cat woman. Then when I saw the Orb Spider inspired by Roda and heard the back story on these photos (friends having some serious fun in Montreal) I knew what I had to do! Sorry Dominique, I had to turn you yellow, and turn you into an Orb Spider. Thank you kindly for allowing me to let my creativity run with this. The orb spider and spider web was captured beautifully by Roda. I believe Darren captured the original picture of Dominique pointing out the great webs. Doesn’t she make a great superhero!

Autumn Paper

Inspired by these photos of Dominique, I thought a nice Autumn Paper would be in order. Using ephemera backing, watercolor, and a bit of acrylic I wanted to capture the colors of Autumn. A friendly little spider ventured onto the page.

Fall Treasures and Halloween Art

Halloween Paper White pumpkin Crow Butterfly 8 x 10 FrameOctober is just around the corner. Chilly air, colorful trees, sweater, boot, and scarves will be abundant. The harvest season is in full swing, mugs full of apple cider, orange and white pumpkins, cornstalks, farmers markets, and decorating. I am so inspired this time of year. The rich color palette are hues of the harvest.

One of my favorite pieces I created this year is now up in my shop. The white pumpkin is an original watercolor created by me. It was inspired by one of my favorite fall treasures. The poem “Night” is an ephemera find, the blackbird and butterfly were collected and touched up from vintage ads.

Here are a few more treasures that will most likely inspire more painting.

What is your favorite fall décor or tradition?

Much love and happy Autumn!

Lisa

Garden and Fashion Ephemera

Bee Hive Clothing House Bee and Dahlia Paper 8x10 jpeg

Besides looking for the next new art supply to try, I’m always on the hunt for ephemera. Antique illustrations have a patina that make them special. Finding old garden periodicals that have hit the public domain are like Christmas. Many are in need of repair from age, light, or water damage. Once they have been restored, they make such beautiful clipart to create a new piece.

Last night I stayed up way too late to work on the wine colored dahlia that I have layered into the piece above. Bees, fashion, and art are some of my favorite things 🙂 The dahlia was pulled from a garden periodical from the 1800’s. The color has been restored and some of the petals on the bloom and foliage were repaired.

This is set to print as an 8 x 10 but can be resized. Free for personal use. Click on the image to save to your device.

I hope you have a beautiful Sunday!

Much love,

Lisa

Gotu Kola with drangonflies on French Kitchen Paper 8.5 x 11 JPEG

Recently, I learned about this herb, Gotu-Kola and it’s amazing properties. I love to learn about medicinal herbs and their endless benefits. Luda, at Plants and Beyond is one of my favorites. She posted this great article about Gotu-Kola. Click on the links provided to read the benefits.

I was inspired by her comments and created this French Botanical. Set on a French Kitchen bookplate from 1882, I added the Gotu-Kola and a pair of dragonflies. This is free to use – personal use only. Click on the link and save to your device. This is great for kitchen art and crafting.
