Fall Treasures and Halloween Art

Halloween Paper White pumpkin Crow Butterfly 8 x 10 FrameOctober is just around the corner. Chilly air, colorful trees, sweater, boot, and scarves will be abundant. The harvest season is in full swing, mugs full of apple cider, orange and white pumpkins, cornstalks, farmers markets, and decorating. I am so inspired this time of year. The rich color palette are hues of the harvest.

One of my favorite pieces I created this year is now up in my shop. The white pumpkin is an original watercolor created by me. It was inspired by one of my favorite fall treasures. The poem “Night” is an ephemera find, the blackbird and butterfly were collected and touched up from vintage ads.

Here are a few more treasures that will most likely inspire more painting.

What is your favorite fall décor or tradition?

Much love and happy Autumn!

When Fashion and Nature Collide – Every Dog has its Day!

HOME IS WHERE MY DOG IS.Home is where my dog is. They are a member of our family. A happy face to greet us with delight when we get home. A devotion like no other. The love of a dog changes you. They make our lives whole.  We certainly cannot forget about the art and fashion inspiration they provide. It is said we spend around 60 billion collectively on our pets. I can personally relate to this. Esme really likes her treats.

Welcome to our September edition of When Fashion and Nature Collide. On the third Wednesday of each month, we will post a new collaborative edition. You will see beautiful fashion and accessories styled and modeled by Dominique from 3C Style and original art made by me, Lisa from Lismore Paper that were inspired by Roda from Growing Self critter pictures and Darren from the Arty Plantsman flower pictures and his original art. For the full feature be sure to visit Dominique, Roda, and Darren. We also have a new model for our September edition!

A Rainy Day Fashion Statement

Every owner and their dog has to walk in the rain from time to time, more like most of the time. Why not do it with a fashion statement! This little pug couldn’t help but jump into the picture after seeing Dominique model this great September look. Inspiration by Darren’s flower, Spiloxene Capensis.Do and raincoat dog

Every dog has its Day!

Creating the art for this edition was challenging, fun, and one of my favorite loves, dogs! Using watercolor, acrylic paints, digital scanning, and graphics I began to create these pieces back in July. Dominique had an idea for a t-shirt using some of our friends on WordPress furry family members. When she asked me to create art for this project, I was thrilled. Once she and Darren gained permission from all our friends, the painting started with one of my favorites, Walter. I enjoy the stories about all of these dogs of WordPress. (Check out the links to them below).  Our own Darren modeled with two beautiful dogs while on his trip. This tee paired with a jean jacket is fun and fabulous! I also like the contrast between the shades of jean material with the coloring on the doggie tee.

Black Cat Graphic from 1876

Brick Red Cat 8 x 10

Antique graphics are the perfect medium to create signs, cards, or use for decoration. I am always looking for antique ads to decorate with. I thought this one would be perfect for Halloween with the black cats, color scheme, and dark sky. The only repair made was the color, I decided to leave the torn edges. I am going to decoupage onto a thin board and use for a backdrop to decorate with for the Fall season.

Happy Sunday!

Much love,

Lisa

Summer’s Finale

Pet Blog

September is a transition month here in Michigan. The air has a nip, the trees lush green begins to fade, turning into the spectacular display of fall colors that we all love. Just as a preview, a few of the soft woods like the birch and sugar maples begin to glow with a hint of maize and red. As the daylight is noticeable shorter, the flower blooms begins to show fatigue, and the humidity fades. This summer has been especially hard on our favorite plants. Whether you loved the crazy heat wave that swept through or not, September finds us digging out our thicker socks and knit sweaters for that cozy feel. Saying goodbye, the finale of the season is never easy.

I always like to revisit my summer. I wanted to share a few today. We just planted two hydrangeas, thank you mom! They will be beautiful next year. I also included the friendly little walking stick that likes to hang out in the front garden.

Vintage Living

Nerium Oleander JPEG

This Nerium Oleander is a shrub or small tree in the dogbane family. It is most commonly known as nerium or oleander, from its superficial resemblance to the unrelated olive Olea. This image was extracted from a vintage garden magazine. The image has been recolored and repaired. There is a few spots that I could not get quite right because of damage but love the vintage look. Click on the image to save to your device. I really like these graphics printed on old or tea stained paper. They look nice framed, decoupaged, or for cardmaking.

Finding vintage treasures is on the top of my list of fun things to do. I had quite a fun birthday and holiday weekend with my family while shopping for treasures. Here are a few items that I picked up while on the hunt.

This tin piece and the sign in the pictures above came from Peacock Park. They have many vintage and vintage like pieces.

While going to lunch, we stumbled upon a sale of antiques. The couple are antique dealers in a nearby town. I believe they were trying to free up some space. I was really hoping to find some antique paper, but unfortunately on this trip, I didn’t see any. I enjoy decorating with these pieces. I also purchased an antique trunk from the early 1900’s that I fell in love with. It needs some work, it’s awaiting some TLC in the barn right now. I will share the restoration in another post.

It’s always fun to do some vintage living. Unfortunately, we don’t have the opportunity to do this often, but it made my birthday weekend special.
